About D.A.V.(PG) College

The year 1892 witnessed the transfer of an Arya Samaj eveninig school from Meerut to the valley of Dehradun. That sapling grew and developed as D.A.V. School. Gradually growing, extending its branch it turned as Dayanand Anglo Vedic Post Graduate College, Dehradun in 1948 with the help of people like Thakur Puran Singh Negi who donated his entire immovable property to this educational institution. It nurtured well on the principles laid by Swami Dayanand and was also influenced by Anglo Education System. It has now emerged as one of the most famous premier institution of Northern India after independence and the biggest college of Uttarakhand State having all the five faculties viz. ARTS, SCIENCE, COMMERCE, B.Ed & LAW comprising twenty one disciplines.

Initially, it was managed by the eminent educationist and social reformer Hon. (Late) Virendra Swaroop, Chairman of Legislative Council (U.P.). It is now under the able supervision and control of Shri Jagendra Swaroop, M.L.C. and Secretary, Board Of Management of Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan, Kanpur. The college is also a recognised Study Centre of IGNOU, IGNOU convergence and different self finance courses such as Journalism, Tourism and B.Sc.IT. The research projects of UGC, CSIR, DST, ISRO and ICSSR in different discipline are being successsfully run by the eminent faculties in the college campus. There has been a long glorious record of the college in different programmes like Sports, Games, Adult Education, Rovers and Rangers, NCC and NSS etc. The college has produced eminent personalities who have made their mark in different fields in India and Abroad. This tree of ours is still expanding in the way of development and enlightening thousands of scholars every year . The college is also accredited by NAAC, an autonomous body of UCG in the year 2004, which given B+ grade i.e. 78.5 percentage. Presentely it is the principalship of Dr. Devendra Bhasin which is setting the college towards the new dimessions. Very rightly we strive towards :“Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya”.
