Jamia Hamdard’s legacy began in 1906 when Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, a renowned practitioner of Unani medicine, established a small Unani clinic with the vision of transforming Unani medicine into a scientific discipline. His son, Hakeem Abdul Hameed, expanded on this vision after India’s independence, founding several educational and research institutions focused on Unani medicine and Islamic studies. In 1948, the commercial enterprise “Hamdard” was converted into a Wakf, dedicated to charity, education, and health. The Hamdard National Foundation was later created to support these causes.

Over the years, Jamia Hamdard expanded its academic reach, establishing institutions such as the Institute of History of Medicine and Medical Research (1962), Hamdard Tibbi College (1963), and the Hamdard College of Pharmacy (1972). In 1989, Jamia Hamdard was declared a Deemed to be University by the Government of India, fulfilling Hakeem Abdul Hameed’s dream of creating a vibrant educational complex.

Today, Jamia Hamdard is a distinguished university offering diverse programs in Unani medicine, Islamic studies, biosciences, pharmacy, nursing, information technology, business management, and physiotherapy. Recognized for its contributions to education and health, Jamia Hamdard continues to be a leading institution, fostering research, learning, and innovation in various fields, while honoring the principles of the Wakf.

A lot of workshops, seminars and distinguish lectures are held in the convention center. The campus crowd is good it is a mixed population of both Hindu and Muslims. There is also a mosque on the campus. The campus is very well-connected by road, There are two metro stations on different lines where you can reach to the university either by Govindpuri or Saket. also, the placement rate is good.
